For a week I’ve had computer issues that resulted in needing to have my laptop restored back to the factory settings. Luckily I didn’t lose any data files thanks to an onsite backup. The truth is that my computer had become bloated with documents, bookmarks, and programs that were no longer needed. I took this mishap as an opportunity, rather than a problem, and looked forward to starting over.

There’s Bloat in  Business

The same thing can happen in business. We hold onto habits, practices, and things that are no longer important, relevant, or beneficial to who we are today and where we want to be. There may be something we’re not doing, such as taking corrective action with an employee, putting systems and programs into place, etc. Over time, we stop seeing those things that need our attention because we’ve lived with them for so long.

Restoration

Looking for a fresh start is a great way to force yourself to assess things so you know what you really want to keep in place and what things no longer serve you. That’s true when speaking about computers, but it’s also true in business, where it’s so easy to get bogged down with too much work and too little time. It’s cleansing and can rejuvenate people to know there’s something new going on.

I recently worked with a group that had never been formally trained as Managers. They told me they were excited to be getting this type of training and had previously had to ‘figure it out along the way’.

It’s Never Too Late to Start Over

If your organization doesn’t formally train the people being promoted into management positions, perhaps it’s time to start anew.  If you’d like to find out more about how New Wing’s Management Training Class is helping organizations do that, I’d love to hear from you!
